Muguet or Valadon in the 7th arr?

We (2 adults) are going to Paris in May. We want to stay in the 7th, and I think I've narrowed down to either Hotel Muguet or Valadon. Has anyone stayed at either? Or is there another hotel you might recommend?

If you do a search here, you will find many threads on the Muguet, many have stayed there. Type "Paris Muguet"

Hello Crispy:

We liked Hotel Pont Royal on rue Montalembert. Well located, good public transportation, helpful, friendly staff. Gradyghost

We stayed in the Muguet a few years ago and loved it. Nice hotel!

We stayed at the Muguet last summer. Loved it! We had two rooms, both on the 6th (top) floor. One looked out to the Eiffel Tower and had a full view of it. The other had a great view of Invalides. The rooms were very well kept and very comfortable. The location was great as it was so close to everything, yet on a quiet street. The owner and her staff were helpful. Breakfast was the only thing that didn't excite us, but rarely do we care for hotel breakfasts anyway. I would definitely stay there again.

Both hotels are fine two stars, well located. We send first timers to Valadon because the owners are quite friendly, and are willing to go out of their way to help those who are deficient in the French language and customs.

Thank you all for your responses. I know that the Muguet has had good reviews, but many were several years old. It's good to know that it's still a good destination. Am I missing a hotel in the area that might be better value?

Again -- thanks for the help!

Crispy, we have rented an apt for the last two trips rather than a hotel and have loved it and would never go back. They are bigger, quieter, and have amenities like a washer and dryer, kitchen etc. We rent a great 1 br in the 7th on Rue St Dominique-would you ever consider an apt. I think ours rents for 1050 Euros/week (7 nights) which may or not be cheaper that a hotel.

Hi plambers,
Do you rent from an individual or an agency? Do you have a link that you could share?

We have stayed several times at the Muguet - they recently raised their rates so coupled with the weak dollar, it is getting pricier. We like the location, we always head out to a cafe for breakfast. usually on the Rue Cler where we can people watch. The reception desk is not overly friendly but we usually have our plans all made and don't ask them for much. We are staying tnere again in May but next trip I may try going with an apartment. Have a wonderful trip!

I stayed at the Muguet in May and was very pleased with the hotel, and I thought the price was reasonable. Contrary to what others have said, on this and other threads, I would just like to note that the staff was extremely helpful. They assisted me with dinner reservations, relayed a phone message from the States, and mailed postcards for me when I was scrambling around on the last day.

mms, thanks, yes I noticed that you added a favorable comment about the owner and her staff as well. I just wanted to provide my favorable experience because others have raised this issue.

We finally decided on Hotel Valadon, mostly because it's been recommended for first timers. And luckily, we got the last room! Thanks all -- can't wait to go!

I know that you've already made a decision but just wanted to add one thing. If smoking bothers you at all, the Muguet is a non-smoking hotel. We were torn between the two as well, and the non-smoking factor was the tie-breaker for us.
That's not to say that you can't get a non-smoking room at the Valadon. I have read wonderful things about the owners of this hotel.

Here are a few of our favorite restaurants a short walk from the Valadon: Florimond, Leo le Lion, D'Chez Eux, Cafe Constant, Les Fables de la Fontaine (great fish dishes)and Clos des Gourmets.
