MUC to Regensburg transport?

I'm taking a river cruise in December. Originally was going to use the cruise line's transfer from MUC to the cruise terminal. But I've decided to add a few days in London before hand and arranging my own flights so now that option is off the table. A private transfer/limo is definitely a possibility but pricey.

Flying in LH around 11:30 and would like to get to Regensburg by mid afternoon

Any ideas?

It takes appr. 1 1/2 hours from MUC airport to Regensburg with one transfer at Freising from bus to train.

At MUC, follow signs to BUS and look for the stops of bus 635 to Freising, Bahnhof (station). Departures every 20 minutes. Bus stops outside Terminal 1, and near the central building and plaza connecting T1 and T2
Take bus 635 to terminus.
At Freising station, you have one train per hour, leaving at 8 minutes past the hour. Final destinations can be Regensburg or Nürnberg (Nuremberg).

Since the ticket desks at MUC are often crowded, and to avoid lines at the ticket machines, the most convenient way to get a ticket would be to go online at bahn.de and buy/print a Bayern ticket at home for that specific day.
In addition, the Bayern (Bavaria) ticket also covers the bus from the airport to Freising station which regular rail tickets don't.
In fact, it would also cover any rides on the city buses in Regensburg on that specific day, in case your hotel is not near the station.
Some services on the Freising - Regensburg leg are provided by German Rail/ Deutsche Bahn others by ALEX.
But the Bayern ticket is valid on whatever train comes next once you got to Freising airport.

Hope this monster link works:

Why not just buy the Bayern Ticket from the bus driver?

Consider first class with Bavarian Ticket - not much more and more leisurely especially with luggage. According to www.bahn.de/en there is first class on both trains. And as they as is written on German train station walls - have a Gute Fahrt - good journey! Regensburg is awesome.

You cannot buy the Bayern Ticket from bus drivers, at least not on local buses like the bus from Munich airport to Freising, operated by MVG Munich transit authority.
The only points of sale in the airport are the ticket machines and the two staffed desks.

Thanks all. The train does look doable -- the infrequency is a concern because I'll have no control over my arrival time so might be a long wait.

I've tried looking for airport transfers/buses/shared vans (like SuperShuttle in the States or or National Express in the UK ) but the ones I find - once I work through the websites only come back as chauffeured limos.

(I'm not staying in Regensburg -- boarding my river cruise there. The only free time I'd have for the town are after I check in on board and/or after dinner. I'd like to see the Christmas market and wander around a bit so I'd like to get to get there as quickly as possible . . . without paying €230 for a private driver.

Janis,
I think we used Transfers between Regensburg and Munich Airport from 29 ? airportliner in 2016. Two of us were going to the same hotel in the center of Regensburg, caught the shared shuttle from MUC to hotel door. E29 per person for 2 one-way.

ooh kay -- that looks very promising! I think I'll have to ring them up to check the details. Looks like a single fare is €42 but the schedule is not listed . . .

thanks
