Most Memorable Experience While in Dingle, Ireland

My sister, her husband and my husband and I are all going to Dingle for a week in May. We are all pretty excited and have been planning this trip since last September.

Last year we were lucky enough to be in Dingle during the May Festival and one evening we went to an author reading. Alice Taylor talked about Irish traditions and her life growing up in rural Ireland. There were only a small group of people in the hotel meeting room and was just a wonderful experience. Afterwards we went to Paidi O Se’s and listened to Pauline Scanlon sing. The pub was packed with people standing and trying to get a closer look as Pauline’s soft voice filled the room. A lady standing next to me said that Pauline Scanlon had released two C.D.’s. Wondering if one was better than the other, I asked which one she thought I should buy. She said, “Both”! It was a night we will always remember. I would love to hear what other peoples most memorable experiences were while visiting the Dingle Peninsula.

Thanking you in advance,
Robbyn

Hi fisher-marie;

Merry Christmas!

I just re-read your trip report on Dingle that you had posted last year. I have a question for you....do you know the name of the B&B that was near your cottage? I forgot to get the name of the women that you met who had that B&B.
I hope to go again this spring and have started to make some notes.

Oh.....your question!: I only spent one 1/2 day in Dingle before heading out to my rental cottage in Clonakilty, while we crammed sooo much into that day I must say the drive over "Connor Pass" really stands out!

Next time I plan on staying a few days in Dingle!

John

Hi John,

Yes, we plan on driving the Connor Pass when we go again too. We have not done that yet. Since I don't like to be on the cliff side, we should take Conner Pass as we are driving into Dingle Peninsula, is that right?

The Farm House B & B is called Slea Head Farm. Caitlin Firtear is the owner. ph: 353066 9156120. www.sleaheadfarm.com

Views from her rooms are breathtaking.

Thanks for the infor fisher-marie

The road over Conner Pass is so narrow I do not think you can avoid the cliff from either direction!

We took it comming into town. I think it is easier to go "up" the narrow road instead of "down". If two cars meet there are certain parts where there was only room for one car to pass. So somebody has to pull over!

I only went over once so I do not want to scare you from trying the pass. Maybe someone with a better memory of the road can give you their opinion!

Thank you so much for recommending Pauline Scanlon's music. I just bought one of her CDs on iTunes. I have a large collection of Celtic music, and this is a wonderfully unique addition.

Hi Susan,

Eilis Kennedy is another one of my favorites. I just both her second C.D. Listen to samples at http://www.eiliskennedy.com/
I hope we can see her sing when we go back in May.

Hi Robbyn,
Thanks so much for the Ellis link. I just listened a bit and like this singer, as well.

I have performed in several Irish music bands myself (here in Southern California). Though I'm more a singer-songwriter, I enjoy singing traditional stuff very much, and it's always nice to be inspired. I'm listening to Pauline's Scanlon's CD, Hush, right now. She's awesome.

Thanks again!!

Spent a few days in Dingle in Oct 07 and really loved the town. We took or drive around the Peninsula and stopped at the Museum. While browsing and chatting, I got serenaded by musician-owner Harry (still recovering from his pub gig the night before lol)
