Montreux & Vevey Budget Accomodation

I am traveling to Switerland solo....next week. I am interested in the Montreux & Vevey area, however, I am overwhelmed with accomodation options.

Does anyone have suggestions on some places that I can stay at on a budget? I was thinking for about 3 nights.

Thank you very much!!

I'm not sure how "budget" you mean, but there is a nice hostel right on the town square and the lake in Vevey. About 5 mins. walk from the train station. www.rivieralodge.ch

If you tell us those you are considering we might be able to better help.

Something like this is perfect! Do you have any other recommendations that are faily inexpensive? Also, any that I could stay in by myself?

Hi kate7ann,

A friend of mine stayed at the Negociants a few years ago and liked it. It's about 100 chf/night. Website at www.hotelnegociants.ch.

Good luck!

That price is a bit steep. I was thinking more like 25-45 CHF/night.

Nope, that's it in that price range.

I am fairly certain because I have friends who live in Vevey and visit them often.

And definitely there's *nothing* in Montreux in that price range.

Riviera Lodge gets pretty good reviews on the hosteling websites also.

You're most welcome.

If you are in Vevey on Saturday there is a wonderful open air farmers market in the town square right by the hostel. On Tuesdays it is the same, but a little smaller, and held on the pedestrian streets. Great place to mingle with locals and have some delicious and cheap food.

oops, suze, not quite true. There is a youth hostel in Montreux-Territet where you can get a bed in a dorm for 31 chf. Here's the link:

http://www.hostel.ch/hosteldetails.h...er_hostels_pi1[bez]=MOX&suche=go

There's also an obscure one-star hotel called Villa Germaine where you may be able to find a room in your price range, and there's the hotel/restaurant Du Pont in the old town where you may be able to find something. I don't think they have websites, but if you want the phone numbers, I can post them.

Good luck!

Here's some info on Villa Germaine -- single w/o bath is 50 chf. Reserve through the tourist office.

Note, though, that it's pretty far from the center of town.

You know, another option would be a bed and breakfast. I stayed in B&B's throughout Switzerland because of the cost factor. They were approximately 40 swiss francs per night which included breakfast. Whilst the standard varied I felt that overall it was the best option compared to the price of hotels generally there. If you go to the Swiss tourism site they actually have a list of all B&B's and I know there is definitely one in Montreaux because we too, stayed there.

Thanks Swandav, sorry to misinform.

My friends often mention Riviera Lodge, but never anything in Montreux... my mistake.

Hey suze, I just know that area (Veytaux/Territet) like the back of my hand; my old school is just up the block from the youth hostel. My mom stayed at Villa Germaine in 1968, when my sister and I were students there . . .

Great idea from stormbird -- check www.bnb.ch to see a lot of them; you can search by location. I know there are a few in Montreux, and I believe there are also a few in Luzern.

Like Intrepid1, I checked out www.rooms.ch, but there was only one hotel listed for Montreux/Vevey, and it was in the 100 chf + area.

Anyway, best of luck kate7ann; you'll have a blast!

So how close it the Montreux hostel to the main street and the quai? Can you walk or would you catch a bus?

suze,

The hostel is just about a block from the lake, and you can either walk to Villeneuve or to Montreux along the lake; the website says it's a 30-minute walk to Montreux. It's probably about the same to Villeneuve. If you go up to the main road (maybe two blocks), you can take bus #1 in either direction. You can take a ferry from the docks at Villneuve, Chillon, or Territet. You can also take a local train from Territet, which is about two minutes from the hostel.

Here's a link to the map:

http://www.hostel.ch/hosteldetails.h...er_hostels_pi1[bez]=MOX&user_hostels_pi1[tab]=arrival&cHash=c93734c2b3

Man, I'm SO homesick! Bus, ferry, train, walk -- wish I were there!
