Milan train station: Luggage storage
Will be travelling from Cinque Terre to Venice through Milan.
I'd like to spend a few hours in Milan, have lunch, look at the Duomo etc.. I have been in the Milan train station before, but don't remember if there is a place where you can store your luggage for a few hours?

We recently used the luggage storage service at the Milan Central train station for a few hours. It was very convenient. There are no lockers. You give the luggage to someone in that office and get a receipt. I think it's 3 Euros per bag for the first five hours. But I DON'T remember EXACTLY.
Then we headed downstairs and took the train 4 stops to the Duomo/Galleria area.
When we tried to buy tickets for the metro train, we found that a lot of the machines were broken. At first we thought we weren't follwoing the directions correctly. So I asked a station employee who was standing there. He was very nice and tried to help but couldn't get the machines to work either. Finally, we found a machine that was working and he bought us the tickets (with our coins) and showed us to the correct train.

All main Italian stations have a manual left luggage office. They have long opening hours (Napoli Centrale is, I think, open 24 hours). The one at Milano Centrale, from memory, was near the top of the stairs on the right hand side of the station as you come off the train. The Italian term is "Deposito Bagagli" but modern signs have a symbol of a suitcase in a rectangle with a key. Lockers were not so common in Italy and have been out of use since the September 11 attacks.
