Milan hotels Demidoff or Antica Locandi dei Mercanti

My husband and I will be in Milan for two days/nights in mid-September and are holding reservations at the Hotel Demidoff and the Locanda dei Mercanti. I'm concerned that the Mercanti has A/C only in its most expensive rooms (not within our budget -- no more than 150 EUR). On the other hand, the Demidoff looks like its location is a bit out of the way. Which should we choose? I appreciate all comments and advice!

Mary, we really liked the Locanda dei Mercanti 3 years ago. We stayed in May & did not need A/C. Rooms are very small but nice. Beds & linens are divine! Great location & very helpful staff. I would stay close to the sights you are there to see - which would be staying at the Mercanti.

Buon viaggio!

I stayed at the Locanda dei Mercanti last April. I agree with Dayle, the room is small but nice, location is excellent. There is no TV in the room, so we were not used to going to bed without watching TV for a while.

I know both hotels, so I'll try to help out.
The Demidoff is more of a nice 3 star hotel. Soothing colors, modern, and off a very busy shopping street next to the metro. Very nice and clean, and you would be content.
The Locanda is in the oldest part of Milan in a very cute and easy to explore on foot. Metro is nearby too. Rooms are small, and I just called them to ask about the a/c and she said that rooms with a terrace have it, and the rooms in the smaller building, but the rest no.
Let me say that I would go for the air conditioning. We have a bad mosquito problem here and it's been really hot. I would think in Sept, it would be slightly cooler than now, but not much. Having to sleep with the windows open in this city is never nice. It's loud here.
I'd go Demidoff, if you cannot get a/c at the Locanda. You can get anywhere on the metro in 5 minutes, so it's not a big deal to move around.
Hope I helped you some.
Ciao, Melissa

Thanks for all the help. Melissa, you were the swing vote. I just don't think I could handle the hot flashes without a/c! We'll go with the Demidoff even though the Locanda dei Mercanti sounds much more charming.
Mille grazie!
