MILAN
Hi-we're taking our first trip to Europe in May, and we will be traveling by train from Monterosso to Milan. We then have around 4 hours before catching a plane to Brussels. Do we have enough time to see the cathedral? Also, how hard is it to get there from the train station and then onto the airport?

If you are flying from Malpensa..you just don't have a minute left. Just besides the train station is the bus station for Malpensa buses , board one, it takes a bit more than a hour to arrive to the airport. That leaves you with just 3 hours (if the bus arrives on time, sometimes traffic is VERY hard) which is what you need for a flight to the States.

Oh, sorry, you are going to Brussels...anyway, I wouldn't risk it ! Better have the last italian coffee at the airport, anyway you need at least two hours for an european flight, Malpensa is a nightmare.

I'm not sure which airport we'll be flying out of. I'll have to check with our travel agent and will get back to you on that. The train from Monterosso is due in at 12:50 p.m., and we fly out from Milan at 5:10 p.m. My real desire was to see the Last Supper but we'll be there on a Monday when they're closed. The cathedral does sound nice, but it's sounding like we may not have time. We also may be able to take an earlier train. The one we'd planned leaves at 8:42 a.m.

If you are willing to take an earlier train, you'd have enough time. I see one departing Monterosso at 6:55 a.m. (#654 Versilia), arriving Milano Centrale at 9:55 a.m. You'll store your luggage at the station and take a cab or the metro to the Duomo.
BTW, #654 at 6:55 a.m. takes 3 hours. The next train departs at 7:36 a.m., arrives 12:50 p.m. and takes more than 5 hours (change in Genoa). Is this second train the one you were considering? If so, leaving 40 minutes earlier means you save more than 2 hours.
