mid-January weather in London, Oslo
On a whim, I want to book a ticket to either London or Oslo in January. Is it too cold? I could go somewhere else instead.

I've been to London in December and March, but never Jan/Feb. I've only been to Norway once and that was in April.

I don't mind some cold but if your face is so cold that it hurts, that's too cold. To me Seattle in January is ok. New York in January is sometimes ok but sometimes too cold. I realize that I am asking a very subjective question.

From Karen to Karen:

Try www.worldclimate.com for averages, but if you can handle NY, it is usually a bit warmer in London and they rarely get snow.

According to worldclimate.com, the average temp in London in January is 39 degrees F, while Oslo is 24 degrees (brrr!). If you don't want it too cold, I'd opt for London.

I'm going in January too!

Happy travels,
Karen

I too was in London last Jan. and wore only a light jacket for the cold. Anyone from the North US will find London winters very mild. The hassle was an almost constant drizzle, not rain really, but light drizzle. Had to carry an umbrella around. If you're from Seattle, it will be familiar. M.
