Mid-February trip; home base adare
Four of us will spend a week in Ireland in mid-February. I have a few questions:
1) We want to go to the Aran Islands, but we have had mixed information on whether the ferries are running in February. If they are, which ones run and when do they run? Do the bus tours in the Islands run year-round?
2) We will be staying in the two-bedroom townhouses at Adare Manor (as provided in our Aer Lingus Vacations trip). Has anyone stayed there? Could you tell me about your experience there?
3) We plan to do some of our own cooking. Is there a large grocery store in Adare? If not, is there one close by. We have a car, so we can travel to nearby stores.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Doolin ferry service to Arans does not commence until April, so you'll have to go further north to county Galway.

You will certainly be able to source basics in Adare, but for full shopping, take in www.skycourtshannon.com nearby SNN, or 24 grocery shopping in a large Tesco in Coonagh, or 24 Dunnes in Jetland at Cahirdavin - all on SNN side of Limerick city, which you will pass enroute to Adare.
Good dining options in Adare, Ballingarry , Limerick city and Bunratty.
Have not stayed in these town houses , so cannot help here.

About 20mi west of Adare on N-21 (Limerick-Tralee road) There's Newcastlewest. I know there's a supermarket there. I've shopped there numerous times. You can take a right onto Maiden Street across from the Courtenay Lodge, continue to Market Square then hang another right to the supermarket parking lot. Or, you can take Bridge St. up to Maiden St., a quick left and a right at Market Square.

There is a small Centra supermarket in Adare for the odd things you forgot to buy.
If you need to go for serious grocery shopping while in Adare, you will find many (e.g. Dunnes 24hrs) along Childers Rd in Limerick. From Adare, take N21/N20 to Limerick until you reach a T-shape intersection, turn right there and you are on Childers Rd.
You will not have to go through downtown to reach the shopping centers and malls along Childers Rd.
