Melk - Bratislava: where to go?

We're planning a trip to Vienna in December, but wondering whether to spend a daytrip in Melk or Bratislava. Can someone who has been to both give us their opinion?
Thanks

I don't know Bratislava, but going to Melk would probably be more scenic and Melk itslef is definitely worth a visit.

Melk is very, very photogenic and interesting. You can take a boat one way and the train the other. You'll also see other pretty villages on route that you might want to see (i.e Durnstein). Do avoid the Stift (Abbey) Restaurant though...it is overrun with tourists and the service wasn't at all good when we were there...

I have only been to Bratislava, but I think it is a very worthy daytrip from Vienna, and very inexpensive. The historic downtown area rivals any other European city in quaintness, and it is a great contrast to Vienna.

Hi O,

We found Melk to be a very nice most-of-a-daytrip.
