May/June in Ireland: clothing advice?

Hello,

I'm leaving on May 27 for two weeks in Ireland, and was hoping for some clothing tips. Will it be warm enough for shorts or short sleaves? Is there much need for anything dressier than jeans and a sweater in the evening? For cooler evenings, I'm thinking of taking a fleece jacket that can be layered with a waterproof jacket. Does this seem like a good way to go? Any tips would be appreciated...I've never been before!

Thanks!

You might want to put a pair of shorts in your suitcase, but you'll probably find it too cool to wear them. You're much more likely to be in jeans and slacks.
Take short-sleeved shirts, but also some long-sleeved shirts so you can layer. The fleece jacket is a good idea, and I think you'll find that the waterproof rainjacket is essential.
We spent our evenings in pubs where people dress very casually. Jeans, T-shirts, and sweaters were fine. We never needed anything dressier.

I recommend tampons instead of pads.

Hi Colleen
You should do well with your plans on what to bring and Mary's advice is good, too.
We were there at the end of June. Our weather ranged sunny and low 70's to cloudy and high 50's. We had some rain but not much. My husband wore shorts most of the 10 days we were there. But he was a rarity and he wears them in the U.S. before anyone else,as well. He tends to be warm! The rest of us wore jeans or khaki-type pants with layered tops depending on the days weather. Your outer wear sounds appropriate. I'd definitely take the fleece jacket. I was grateful for having packed a pair of those cheap little stretchy gloves. I wore them during a hop-on/hop-off bus tour on the top of a double decker bus in Dublin.
Casual attire was fine everywhere we went (Dingle,Cork,Cashel and Dublin).
Have a wonderful trip!
Thanks for the advice. There is one thing that I forgot to ask. What about baseball caps? Do people wear them in Ireland? I like to throw one on when the hair is out of control...but I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb!

Thanks!

Colleen

Colleen - We went the end of Aug first of Sept. I brought a pair of pants with the zip off legs and I'd recommend them. But of course the day I really needed them I had on jeans. I did use them especially when biking the Dingle Penn.and it was nice to know that as I went out for the day I could change if the weather turned warm. Jeans and chinos were everywhere and I honestly can't remember if I saw a baseball cap but I'd bet I did. Layering is the answer and a waterproof jacket is required.
