Market in Provence on Monday

We will be driving in Provence on a Monday leaving Avignon and have not been able to determine if any of the towns have a market on MOnday. This is our first time in Provence and will only be there two days, and we have always heard that a highlight of Provence is going to a market. Thanks,

My copy of the Michelin Green Guide for Provence has a section in the back called "shopping in Provence." It includes a market schedule that says there are Monday markets in Cadenet, Cavaillon, and Nimes.

Unfortunately, my copy is six years old, so you might want to borrow or buy the most recent edition to get the most up-to-date information.

I hope you are successful. Provencal markets are a joy.

If you're heading out of Avignon I would suggest the market in Cavaillon or Fontvieille.
I don't know which direction you're heading, but....
On Tuesdays there is a nice one in Tarascon and Fontaine de Vaucluse.
Gordes has one then too. There is also one in Aix - but it's tiny and mostly only vegetables.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know which are open on Monday afternoons? We're headed to Moustiers Sainte Marie that afternoon and we're looking for one along the way?

I could be wrong, but I've never been to a market in France outside of Paris that didn't fold down starting around noontime. They usually begin setting up very early in the morning and have vanished by 1 pm.

Are you by any chance going on from Moustiers to Nice? The big market there at the Cours Saléya is wonderful, and on Monday there's an extra-large flower market.

Cavaillon would be a good choice--as well as the market there are several excellent bakeries.

The site http://www.provencebeyond.com has a lot information about most towns & villages in Provence, including market days. I agree that very little market activity takes place from lunch time - you really need to be there by mid-morning at the latest.
