maribel- would love your input!
Maribel: You were so helpful to me 2 years ago when I travled to Spain. I hope you are well- I am enjoying some of the treasures I picked up such as linens and vases and pictures! I picked up several prints at the flea market in Madrid- took photos of them in my home in Boston and sent them back to the artist - he was so excited that his work was traveling back to the US that I did that for him. He was so thrilled to recieve the photos he sent me a lovely note with another original that he did and signed it to me! Anyway- I am traveling solo this summer and interested in maybe Spain again. Any suggestions for July or August for a solo travler looking for adventure and relaxation?

Hi jill,
Yes, I remember your trip and am glad you're enjoying the treasures you brought back. You could go down to Andalucia (Sevilla-Granada-Cordoba) but in the heat of July and August, you might like to venture up to beautiful, cool Green Spain, the very pretty north-Galicia (Santiago de Compostela), Asturias (the coast between Llanes and Ribadesella), Cantabria (Santander) or the Basque Country (elegant San Sebastian). That's where we spend our time in July. If you still have my email, just
send me a note and let me know how much time you have and other particulars.

Maribel- Thank you. Last time I did go to Santiago de Compestella- I went on a 10 day bike trip with Backroads and just loved that area. I will have about 2 weeks- maybe 12 days or so. A beach resort would be nice with opportunity to see some historical sites, etc. I hope to return to Madrid some day- I loved it.

Hi jill,
Ah yes, I remember now that your bicycle trip with Backroads ended in Santiago from Portugal's Minho.
If you loved Santiago, then you'd love Asturias/Cantabria/Pais Vasco too I think. Asturias is also a Celtic land with pretty small cove beaches plus the majestic Picos de Europa mountain range for unforgettable hikes (the Cares gorge, for one) and fabulous scenery. Cantabria is pastoral, dairy farm land with stunning valleys, whose capital Santander has the exquisite beach of El Sardinero. San Sebastian, in Gipuzkoa of the Basque Country, is filled with graceful Belle Epoque architecture and has the famous and elegant La Concha, plus it's Spain's gastronomic capital. La Concha was just named one of Europe's top 20 beaches in the London Times. From Santander you could visit Spain's most beautiful medieval village, Santillana del Mar. And from S.S., Hondarribia, a very picturesque and historic Basque fishing village is within a very short reach. Plus there's wonderful and highly atmospheric St-Jean-de-Luz just across the border in the French Basque Country. So many great sights in this area.
I'll email you with more info.

Maribel, If you are still on the forum I'd love the linen store you suggested in Madrid, I purchased a gorgeous table cloth- it was a long time ago - 2001; but I am trying to find the store again. It was run by a lovely young woman and her mother. Thank you, Jill

I don't think Maribel has posted on here in a long time, but I think this is the linen store she has recommended in her Madrid guide

Thank you for your in put. And sorry to bring an old post to everyones attention! the dish towel I have from the store I still use; it is in perfect condition, beautifully made; unlike all the rest that I have from stores in the US. I'm not sure if this is the right store or not; but it was owned by a woman and her daughter; they were just lovely. I seem to recall it being small; but this could be it and it was quite a while ago.
