Mama Mia! No Gelato in Rome?

Hard to believe but a friend called from Rome and said it was cool there - about 50 degree F and that she tried to buy some gelato but couldn't because the gelato shop said they don't sell gelato when it's cold. This is hard to believe - i didn't challenge my friend but this doesn't pass the smell test, or does it. Do gelato sales close when it's too cold? maybe if nobody is buying??

I'm sure the shop sells more gelato when it is hot than when it is cold.
Why didn't you "challenge" your friend rather than asking US since we aren't even there to check it out!

Dear Pal,

Perhaps that one shop didn't sell gelato when it was cold out.

Or sold out. Maybe the 20something clerk just forgot to re-order.

Try more than 1 ice cream shop...there's probably less of a choice, but they keep selling!

Yes, it IS hard to believe. I also hear there's no soup in Paris.

In February (2004) we had gelato every day, and it was snowing in Rome!

There were about a zillion gelato sellers when I was in Rome (I left yesterday and was there for about 5 days). If she's still there in Rome, she can go to San Crispini at Via del Panetteria 42 (but I think it's closed Tuesday). The Lime flavor is very intensely-flavored.
