There weren't that many. I might not have made it to the top of Notre Dame that day, however. Yes, a cool house.

What a nerve-wracking trip home. I am only glad that you didn't land in the hospital for an extended period upon your return but am sorry to hear you didn't recover until November.

I am glad your spirits aren't daunted and you have your next trip in the works. I think you and Tracy deserve a romantic 21st Anniversary trip to Spain.

I don't remember there being that many stairs at Victor Hugo's house but it was 30 years ago when strangely I rarely noticed stairs at all! What I do remember is that it seemed as if he'd just stepped out of the room and if we waited long enough, he'd walk back in again.

I keep thinking of that attendant that took away your oxygen. You'd think they would have enough for two since people who need it can't take theirs on board.

I think they just wanted me out of the galley. They weren't very happy with the situation, not that I completely blame them. They had to get the food out, the quarters were cramped and after a couple of hours of oxygen I didn't quite look like "death warmed over" anymore.

You and Tracy are certainly troopers, not only dealing with illness but also with so many other unforeseen misfortunes. It's good to know you're recovered and looking forward to Spain. Can't wait for another great trip report.

By the way, speaking of stairs, I'm really in awe of your climb up from the depths of the Cardinal Lemoine Metro station. Even without bronchitis, that's a tough ascent.

So, when is your next trip to Paris to do things properly and without coughing?

We never know…it is always a "why don't we go to Paris in ????" moment.

After Spain, we'll see what's next, but we can always sneak a week of Paris in at some point.

On our next Paris trip, my top priority is Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, another place on our list we never got the chance to see during Week 2. I'm guessing no museums on the next one. I'm bringing lots of cough syrup, also.

As for "properly," that's never in our equation. To paraphrase my dad, "there's the proper way and there's Tom's way."

Tom: A great report and a great ending. That is to say, you are still with us, and ready for another trip - to Spain this time. Glad Tracy will have reinforcements. She may need them.

If memory serves me, there were three or four flights - but the ascent was quite steep it seemed. Glad I made it to the top where I gazed down at the lovely square (literally a square) in the middle of the Place des Vosges.

Agreed, the residence did look as if Hugo had just left...

You and Tracy are Fodorites through & through---roll with the punches, travel on, don't look back on previous mishaps.

Anyone with any breathing problem should realize that on an aircract there is about 25% less oxygen than at sea level.

MDH had a heart incident while we were snorkeling in Barbados and almost drown. After 2 days in the hospital we had to stay on island for another 3 before flying just for that reason---oxygen on the flight.
That was 9 yrs. ago so obviously there was a good outcome. We have traveled often since then but it's always in the back of our minds.

Keep on traveling---I think it's the smile, the sunglasses and the good attitude that see you through.
