Given the exchange rate, that is not a large budget for a 4 star hotel centrally located in Madrid, but I've often gotten good rooms at very favorable rates at conde duque

Hi
Depending on when in June you might be able to stay at the 5 star uber cool Hotel Urban - http://www.derbyhotels.es/page.php?id=515. Also quoting good rates is the Hotel Quo Puerta del Sol - http://www.hotelquopuertadelsol.com.

Keep a lookout for Sol Melia offers. Sign up at the solmelia.com site, and there may be an irresistible offer for a nice 4* hotel. Also sign up for TravelZoo, as the same thing often occurs.
Barring a huge conference, I think Madrid tends to be extremely reasonable for hotels, or at least the potential for getting a great deal usually exists.

You can also try Priceline or Hotwire. I'd probably consider only bidding for a 5*, though, based on what you seem to want. Check out www.betterbidding.com for more information.

I just remembered a great hotel NH paseo del Prado
-4 Star. It's next to the Palace-great location. The rooms are great-I used to stay there when it was called Gran Canarias-bought out by NH 2 years ago.I have stayed at NH hotels throughout Spain and Portugal and have never been disappointed-love their toiletries.
Lots of special offers and with the money you save you can splurge and go to either the Palace or Ritz for tea or brunch!
enjoy!
