Seafox, I can't help you but hope somebody else can! I don't live near Boston, but my brother does and my son may be going to college there next year. In my experience, macaroons in the US are usually the coconut ones, not anything like the ones in Paris and not nearly as good. Good luck!

I don't like those kind of macaroons myself, but if you can't find any in Boston, the recipe is not that difficult, as I've seen authetic French recipes for that style. Why don't you make some.

seafox, honey, I do know what you mean and I have the same withdrawal symptoms every time we come home from Paris.
I am lucky enough to be near some small French bakeries where I live , otherwise I would recommend
1-hurry back to Paris and take care of that need!
2-scout out some pattisseries in your neighborhood and enjoy taste testing until you find one that got it right!
3-call Weight Watchers after going through suggestion #2

Maison du Chocolat on Madison in NYC has them as well (chocolate flavor only, but hey).

Don't know about Boston though

I think the Savoy Bakery in Brookline makes French Macaroons. Also try asking this question on Chowhound's Boston board. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Fauchon's is going to be the nearest you will find.
Seadog, I'm in Boston, and the reason is the milk and water tastes different and their ovens are different then ours. These things contribute to taste.
Like the cheeses are unpasturised is why ours never taste as good.
ingrediants from flour to the quality of olive oil all make the difference in taste.

Real Simple magazine listed a place where you can buy macaroons online and have them delivered. I haven't tried them, but let us know how they taste if you do.

$26/22 macaroons in chocolate, raspberry, pistachio, coffee and coconut-lemon at http://www.payard.com
