The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European Timetable. Table 125 shows that Sundays apart trains leave Gatwick at 0830 and reach Kensington Olympia at 0946. You buy at Gatwick, probably from a machine, a ticket from Gatwick with a day travel card to London zones 1 and 2. You walk 100 yards along the platform and take the District Line underground train in eight minutes to South Kensington. There you can cross the platform to the Circle Line, and go 15 minutes to Paddington. There you climb two flights of stairs and take a taxi to your hotel. If two flights are two munch one of you can sit by the bags while the other walks 200 yards to the main road on the level, and hails a taxi three miles to your hotel. Or if you will name your hotel I shall look for a useful bus there from Olympia or Victoria.

Dear Ms Austin,
I am honoured. At http://www.venere.com/hotel/?htid=70...;tripref=34989 is a map to show the hotel. From Bayswater Road underground station on the Circle Line please turn left or north along Queensway, walk 200 yards north to Porchester Gardens, turn right or west, and walk 200 yards to Porchester Terrace: the hotel is on the corner. If the bags are heavy leave the station, and take a taxi less than half a mile to the hotel for about four pounds.

An Oyster card used on a pay-as-you-go basis caps at 50p less than the cost of a 1-day Travelcard - and if you don't hit the cap, the residual value stays on your card.

consider taking the cheaper Thameslink trains from Gatwick to Charing Cross station, changing once en route and then hopping the every few minute buses that go right to Paddington and perhaps by your hotel.
I find traveling with luggage is easier on the bus than going down into the tube, often entailing long escalators or walks. Buses perhaps go direct from victoria to Paddington as well.
