Lugano or Como?
Which lake would you recommend between Como and Lugano? Which is more beautiful? I'm looking for the more "touristy" place between the two; not so secluded.
Also, if I go with Lugano on the Swiss side, does it still have a strong Italian influence in food, etc.?

I personally prefer Como Lake. I found Lugano (town) not that interesting and lively despite it was may when i went there. In Lugano you can find both italian and of course swiss food, being right near the border of Canton Ticino.

Why not go to both and decide for yourself?
They are only a 45 minute train ride from each other. The train stations are easily reached by walking from Lugano or Como.
If you want touristy, I recommend the town of Como on Lake Como. I personally like that town a lot - inexpensive shopping (compared to Switz.), good restaurants. And it is a hub for lake ferry travel.
Lugano is also beautiful with the Lake promenade. The food is definately Italian - everyone speaks Italian. Lugano is not secluded.

I agree with Queenie, I like the town of Como. We use the hotel Barchetta Excelsior right on the main lake front square, which is good location for eating out, access to lake, etc. If you are driving it is an easy drive to Lugano. Hint, if driving, easiest place to park in Lugano is above the main town by the train station then you can take the cable tram down from the station to the main part of town.
