Luca or Pisa

Finishing a 2 week trip to Italy by flying out of Pisa around noontime next month. Should we stay in Pisa the night before or maybe Luca? What's the travel time (train) between the two? Any recs where to stay either town? Thanks

I would opt for a night in Lucca; the town is a very manageable size, try renting a tandem and cycle on top of the city walls if you get there before dark.
Stayed in the Palazzo Alexander, small, comfortable, inside the walls.
30 minute train transfer to Pisa Centrale, which has a regular 5 minute direct link to the airport. Check the Trenitalia website for times.

I also recommend Lucca, one of my favority cities in Italy. I have stayed at two different places in Lucca: Hotel San Luca Palace, lovely hotel within the walls , very close to the bus station. My first time in Lucca I stayed at a B&B called La Romea, also within the walls. I highly recommend either.

I would also stay in Lucca over Pisa. We just day tripped to both but I much preferred Lucca over Pisa. Riding bikes around the walls was a great way to spend a couple of hours. Have a great trip.

We stopped in Lucca for a half day on our way to Pisa for an evening flight. Fell in love with it. I would go back there in a second. I believe it was an hour to 1.5 hours between the two.

I would stay in Lucca. It is only a 30 minute or less train ride from Lucca to Pisa.

We're thinking of stopping in Lucca for an afternoon before going to Pisa for the night. Anyone know if there are places to store luggage in Lucca?

I love the walled city of Lucca and its people! Even below ground it's fascinating. There is an archaeological dig under the most famous church that goes way, way back. I love the nearby mountains and would love to drive to some nearby towns to get off the beaten track, although Lucca is still a hidden gem.
