Looking for Ino from Thanos

I have read many of your postings on Mykonos and would like to know if you are familiar with any of the following hotels (we are going in July): Santa Marina, Roayl Myconian Thalasso, Imperial Miconian Thalasso, Myconian Ambassador Thalasso. The last 3 hotels seem like they must be right next to one another and almost interchangeable. My guide book gives them all 5 stars. It looks like you can either stay near town and travel to beaches, or stay near beaches and travel to town. Does it matter which you do? My only plast experience with something like this was St. Tropez. First visit we stayed in town, next visit near beaches. We want sea view from room, rally nice pool and great service.

hello NYerr

thank you for the message.

I have to tell you that your three hotels from the same company are not together. Myconian Ambassador is at Platis Yialos (closest to town but still 15 minutes travel time) and Royal Myconian and the Myconian Imperial are both located at Elia. I know each hotel and also the fourth 'A' class hotel they own in town, called 4K. Truthfully, is not in town but on hill high above.

I live on the island and have never staying as a guest. I always recommend peoples check out other sites like Trip Advisor for reviews. For you I look there and notice something strange. Each of the three company 5 star hotels i write about above have different 5 star reviews on exactly the same days in January. mmmmmm.

If you look for high class hotels then here are some others to seacrh for:-

Mykonos Grande at Aghios Ioannis my favoruite area, great views and colours and closest beach to town. 8 mins by local bus.

The Apollonia Bay Hotel also at Aghios Ioannis . Small boutique and I think very, very nice locationn with good services.

Kempinski Resort Saint John at Aghios Ioannis - a resort hotel with great views

Petasos Beach Hotel at Platis Yialos and The Princess of Mykonos at St. Stefanos beach. I always hear good things about these hotels.

If you decide to stay in town take a look at:

Belvedere Hotel and Hotel Cavo Tagoo (do not mistake for Tagoo Hotel, similar name).

Is difficult for me to say if better in town or beach. If beach hotel then you need to make sure you add times to town and that hotel has regular and late hotel bus service. There are only 30 taxis on island and can be difficult to find some evenings, especially in July.

If I made to choose then I would stay in town hotel due to July being peak season time and transport to town late evenings could be difficult.

Every hotel I give you has your requirements, sea view, nice pools and good service. Make sure you request sea view - that is very important here.

I know the Santa Marina which is at Ornos, and close to Aghios Ioannis travel times. I know little about hotel so cannot comment, good or bad.

Please any questions, ask and I will help if I can do it.

Thank you for all the information. I found someone who stayed at the Royal Myconian and loved it. We will definitely request sea view. I have since heard that Santa Marina is not a good value. We will be staying at a very small place in Santorini so we were looking for a different feel on Mykonos. They provides shuttles to/from town. Since you are so familiar with the island do you have any favorite restaurants and beaches?

ttt - I have reread your advice here Thanos, and the research continues. I think your suggestions are really good after reading through 2 years of posting here. Next stop is the bookstore. I know it is hard living in a place and knowing the hotels since I live in NYC and when people ask me where to stay it is hard to say, since of course I don't stay in the hotels. Though in NYC some of the best restaurants are in a hotel. If it is friend or family, sometimes I go to check out a place for them.

I did find an old post of yours with the webcam reference. Now I have the Mykonos webcams running on my computer which is fun. Thanks.
