Looking for guide in Foggia?

Can anyone recommend an English speaking guide in Foggia?

I've been to Foggia and am just curious as to why you need a guide for the town. There isn't much to see in Foggia and the main turist destinations near Foggia (San Giovanni Rotondo, Monte San Angelo, and Castel del Monte) have English speaking guides at each destination.

Actually I'm doing this research for my mom who's long lost family is from Foggia. She is going on a Italy trip, and wants to spend a day/night in Foggia.

It would be better if an English speaking person was there to show her around to translate. Perhaps take her to one or many of the churches to look around, see the cemetary, etc.

And just to say she was there. We did this for my dad in the town where his family is from and had an English speaking guide who helped us get around.

That said, I appreciate your thoughts and any advice. If you can recommend a guide that would be great.

Grinisa, One other question...
Is Foggia a big town/city or small? I'm wondering how many churches are there or if there is really just one? I wanted to pass this info along to my mom so she knows what to expect.

Thanks!

Baluka, Foggia is a small city and a provincial capital so there are probably a few dozen churches and several cemetaries. Sorry, can't help with a tour guide. You might try asking over on the Slowtrav.com website as I believe a few of the regular posters there live in Puglia. They might have some ideas. Good luck.

Try the links above for some info. Foggia has over 150,000 population. Plenty of use for a guide or translator, I would think, and far fewer English speakers at hand than major tourist destinations.

I'd check to see if you have a university there - students can be great guides and not too expensive. And follow leads to the Comune - basically the town and its government - to see if you find a tourism bureau.

This last site has a geneology page, too. Now get out there online and LOOK! (They don't call it a "Search Engine" for nothing, but you have to tell it what you're searching for!)

Above has further links.

And this finallly is the official site of Foggia:
http://www.comune.foggia.it/
It was apparently shut down last night.

Universita degli studi di Foggia is here:
http://www.unifg.it/
I don't see any English language links there, but you could take a chance and write a note in English to see what happens. Maybe this person who seems to head the International RElations office can help: http://www.unifg.it/organizzazione/r...p?id_strtt=235

I've stopped overnight in Foggia as a convenient place to break a train journey. It's a modern city in the middle of a plain. I can't imagine there would be any tourist guides because there's nothing to interest tourists.
