I am not a pub person - however you simply cannot miss The Old Bank of England pub on Fleet Street. The wall murals are something special. Great bangers & mash too.

You might enjoy the London Pub Walk, one of the evening walks & impossible to miss - they advertise all over the city.

If you do a text search here for London pubs there will be tons of previous posts. Ben Haines has a list of pubs with good food too.

The Sherlock Holmes [address?]. Really interesting. The upstairs dining area has a reproduction of Sherlock Holmes's study.Food was pretty good too

the Counting House. Beautiful pub. Used to be a bank. In the City (of course).

I just got back last week from London so I'll share some of my favorite Pubs that I visited on this trip.All of thes pubs meet my two most important criteria for a good Pub.
1)It must serve cask-conditioned Real Ale
2)The pub must have some historical significence.

some that I would recommend are:

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese (Fleet Street)
Lamb & Flag (Covent Garden)
The prospect of Whitby (Wapping)
The Maple Leaf (Covent Garden - great if you want to catch up on the US sports)
The Old Bank (Fleet Street)

As a previous poster mentioned, it is really worth going on a pub walk, they really do take you to some great pubs and teach you a bit about the pub's history too.
