Melanie, that is nice. Did you have them remove your other post? I booked because I wanted to pay but then they said no payment till check-in. I wanted to pay when the pound was at 1.23 to the dollar. I am still open to change. It was going to be for two nights but we added another night so not sure about studios2let now.

The Montague looks really lovely and gets fantastic reviews, but the rooms (per booking.com) seem very small - either 161 or 183 square feet. Our room at The Academy Hotel, which was by no means large, was 226 square feet!

Both of those are lovely hotels (I've stayed at the Montague twice) but just for comparison/info . . . The smallest studios at Dolphin House are 376 sq ft. and the studios sleeping three are nearly 450 sq ft. Their 1-bdrms run 480 to 600 sq ft. So for those needing space just something to consider.

The Montague is nice but I don’t remember the rooms being partially large. In fact, one time my single was very small as to be expected. Most hotel websites will give room areas so if size is important be sure to check. I often stay at Rubens at the Palace which is an excellent hotel, but admit their rooms run small even when upgraded.

Malmaison Clerkenwell. It’s quiet in the evenings but I really like that. 2 mins from Barbican tube.

The last couple of times we’ve stayed at Vancouver Studios in Bayswater, 3-4 minutes walk from the Tube station. They have one bedroom apartments, with a pull out bed in the living room, which start at 210/night, June will probably be high season, but you’ll still be well within your budget of $350/night.

I just booked with them again for next May, we have the three bedroom garden apartment at 330/night.

Apartments ? Vancouver Hotel and Studios

The area where the Montague and Academy is located is among the best for tourists IMO. From that general area, you can walk just about anywhere - and those areas - Holborn/Bloomsbury/Fitzrovia are great in themselves. Lots of very quiet pockets and even the busier areas are much more relaxed than other places in Central London. Walk to Soho, Chinatown, theatre district, South Bank, almost all the most important museums, Covent Garden, etc, etc. Then when you're tired of hectic London, go back 'home' and find a nice pub in the neighbourhood or a nice restaurant around Goodge Street.
