London Guards is more like 4 start than three by London standards. Perfectly clean, all the staff was great, particuarly Ishmael behind the desk. Th e breakfast is average - tea, croisannts, danish and toast. You can get eggs if you want but it's extra. But otherwise I booked through an internet booking service and got a rate for a single of GBP 75!!
The Plaza is a very good hotel as well in the general area, but last I knew it was quite a bit more expensive. It's a larger, and better hotel, but I think London Guards is a really good value.

Stayed at the Plaza on Hyde Park last year. Excellent location adjacent to Hyde Park and close to tube stop and bus stops. Standard room was smallest I've stayed in anywhere in Europe but was clean and well equiped. Nice public areas, helpful staff, and cafe food was good and reasonable. Don't pay the rack rate which is around $200 US for standard room. They seem to always have specials for about half that. Currently, they show a special for 75 GBP for a standard room for July - Sept. If you decide to stay there, plan an evening at the Swan Pub around the corner. Take your food/drink to the room in the back where there is a sing-along every night except Sunday.

Hi Bob!
Try doing a search for "London Guards Hotel" or check out this website "www.demon.co.uk/hotel-uk/guards.html" I've stayed there twice, once in June 1999 and then in January 2000. It is a charming hotel and I highly recommend it. It is about a 3 or 4 min walk to Lancaster Gate Tube Stop on the Central Line and about a 2 minute walk to the Lancaster Gate Entrance to Kensington Gardens. One thing I really liked about this hotel is that it is one block off the main road so it is pretty quite even if you have a room in the front of the hotel. I also like that each room has a small fridge so you can buy things from the local store, like milk etc.. and it will stay fresh. In fact I like this hotel so much that I will be staying there again this June. Hope this helps!!
