LONDON - Green Park area hotel needed - under $225/night
DW would like to do a long weekend in London in the next few months and wants to stay in the area "close to the Green Park tube" (in the past we've stayed in S. Ken.).
Venere.com shows very, very little in that area but I did see a double at the Flemings Mayfair Hotel (the only Venere option acceptable: comments on this hotel?) for $225/night - the very high end end of our hotel budget. Ideally, I would like something under $200/night.
St. Jame's square area is also acceptable.
Basically, we want a beautiful, quiet area that is also a close walk to Soho, Museums, etc. Hotel services are not as important as location & price.
Thanks.

There are a few possibilites at lastminute.co and expedia. You could also try www.laterooms.com They had the 4 star Saint George In Langham Place near Oxford Circus at close to your budget. Bloomsbury is another area you could consider.

You might take a look at the BA holidays website. You got a room at the De Vere Cavendish (great location, Jermyn St.) for about your price in November. The rate included tax and continental breakfast. They have many other hotels as well on the site. Make sure to specify country of residence on the homepage to get the quotation in dollars. We used BA for the hotel but flew to London on AA.
At one time, people seemed to be getting good rates at the Holiday Inn Mayfair as well.
Have a great trip.

This is the hotel list from www.biddingfortravel.com for the 5 and 4 star hotels Priceline has used in the Mayfair/Soho zone:
5 Star
Le Meridien Piccadilly
Le Meridien Grosvenor House
Swissotel London
The Howard
Sofitel St. James
Hilton Trafalgar London
St. Martins Lane
4 Star
Sheraton Park Lane on Piccadilly
Thistle Royal Horseguards
Thistle Charing Cross
Marriott Grosvenor Square
Washington Mayfair
Hotel Inter-Continental London
Kingsway Hall
Millenium Hotel London Mayfair
The Berners Hotel
Radisson Edwardian May Fair Hotel (formerly Intercontinental Mayfair)
Holiday Inn Mayfair
The Waldorf Hilton
Generally speaking, the 4* rooms in Mayfair tend to go for $100 - $150 per night and the 5* for $150 -$200.

Thanks for the replies so far.
Priceline is not an option for us.
I will be looking at laterooms.com. I like the "search by tube stop" feature. I will be entering the addresses for the Green Park list one at a time on Mapblast. I wish it showed the hotel locations on a map!
The Holiday Inn Mayfair is a good choice/backup but I must compulsively check the addresses of the lateroom.com Green Park choices first.
I couldn't find a room at De Vere Cavendish on any of the hotel websites that listed it for less than 265GBP/night (before 17.5% VAT) - that's $580/night!!!

Technically, the Ritz is closer to the Green Park tube entrance than is the HI but of course we know you aren't going to spend money in that overpainted Ritz (and I don't blame you)...isn't there a Hilton or a Renaissance a couple of blocks away? Have you thought of using any other discount sites besides those mentioned?

I'm not sure you're going to be that happy with the area around the Green park Station. I certainly wouldn't call it beautiful. the park itself is certainly pretty - but the area is very standard London business area - nothing particulary pretty. You could do just as well lots of other places.
And the flemings hotel is OK - but some of the rooms are minute - even for London - so be careful you get info on the exact size of your room.

Hi Bardo,
Yikes, $580/night.
Just for fun, I tried the BAholidays.com site and punched in the dates 10-15 March, and came up with a $198/night rate for the Cavendish, including tax and breakfast. The only drawback is that you have to pay when making the reservation. They also listed other hotels for that time period.
When we reserved our room, I couldn't find the low price we had anywhere else. I even phoned the hotel, and they said they were fully booked.

nytraveler,
I welcome your thoughts for other areas. DW actually stayed at De Vere Cavendish on business last year and likes the area.
Our criteria are: pretty/quiet area, quick walk to Soho and museums, less than 5 blocks to tube, under $225/night.
Would Berkely sq or Grovenor Sq area fit?
All ideas appreciated.

We once stayed at the Washington Hotel, which is a couple blocks away from the park "behind" the Green Park tube. It's a nice hotel. We stayed there because they were giving a great "pay the amount in dollars instead of pounds" deal. Quite a good price. It's also just sort of across the street from the fun Shepherd's Market area.

your criteria confuse me. "pretty/quiet area, quick walk to Soho and museums?"
Near Green Park tube station fits none of those IMHO. Picadilly is a busy commercial street, and it is a fair walk from Soho and even farther from any museums except for Apsley House and the Royal Acadamy.

AmyLynne- I went to the Hilton site and clicked on "outside US" on the right side. Here is the link http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/promotio...on/index.jhtml
I didn't look at the dates but I'm sure June is higher. When we stayed at the London Hilton is was in November and it was much less expensive.
