lodging in Bayeux or vicinity?

Can anyone recommend a nice quiet spot in the Bayeux area? Thanks.

The Hôtel de la Bellefontaine is a nice manor house 800 meters from the center of Bayeux but set in a park with lovely grounds and a rushing stream. We stayed there two years ago and loved it. Prices are reasonable - I think we paid about $80 for a very spacious double. There's no restaurant and no pool, if that matters to you. It's fairly remarkable for being so close to the center of Bayeux yet in such a bucolic setting.

Have booked a twin with breakfast for June 2003 at Hotel D'Argouges in Bayeux. Comes well-recommended in several books and I was pleased with their prompt and courteous replies to faxes, emails.

I think that this question might get two different answers depending on whether you prefer to be more or less IN Bayeux - - or "in the vicinity".

We've nbeen putting together ideas that are "near" - - but on the coast (or harbor in the case of some towns). I don't have my notes with me right now, but you could write me if you have a list of towns that would fit ypour criteria. Or I will try to post a few here later this weekend perhaps. How close is "vicinity" to you?

Best wishes,

Rex
Suzanne,

I second StCirq's recommendation for the Hotel de la Bellefontaine. Very quiet and relaxing setting. The rooms are quite large, but the amenities of the room are somewhat sparse. No closet, no drawers, small armoire instead. Bed a bit lumpy. But the price is right and the setting is charming.

If you are looking for something special, the Chateau de Sully just outside of Bayeux is remarkable. We had dinner there and I would stay there on any other trip to the area. Idyllic garden-like grounds, park-like setting, beautiful public rooms, and dinner was a joy. We also had tea there one afternoon and never wanted to leave. I don't have the prices, but you can look at this site for more info.:
http://digital.france.com/hotels/hoteldetails.ihtml?HotelID=9460

Have a great time!

Lisa

We stayed at the Hotel D'Argourges in May and thought it was lovely and thought the service was excellent. It's right in the center of town and is right near restaurants, the cathedral and the tapestry. It's really nice there, enjoy!
