Lodging and Must Sees in Edinburgh
Hi,
I am looking for an nice, inexpensive (quirky is good) place to stay in Edinburgh for nights in Sept. I will have a car so somewhere to park would be great. We would also like to be able to explore town easily from our location. Also, suggestions on must sees would be appreciated.

If you want inexpensive but quirky, I suppose you are looking at B&Bs rather than budget chain hotels. If you'll have a car you won't want to be in any of the central areas where on-street parking is restricted O: these include the Old Town New Town, West End & Tollcross.
Morningside is a nice area about 1/1.5 miles out with unrestricted parking and on a good bus route. Two B&Bs there, run by nice people I know slightly, are One Albert Terrace (not the one in Musselburgh which is much further out) and Pringle's Ingle.
A bit further out again and to me slightly less fun areas but also on good bus routes are these roads which have lots of B&Bs (each row is basically all the same road but with different names, in increasing order of distance out) -
1) Haymarket Terrace / West Coates / Roseburn Terrace / Corstorphine Road / St John's Road
2) South Clerk Street / (Newington Road / Minto Street / Mayfield Gardens / Craigmillar Park) or Dalkeith Road.
3) Pilrig Street.

P.S. Just another thought - are you young (20s/30s)? If so, this place might appeal - www.portinn.co.uk.
And another - do you need to keep the car in Edinburgh ? Will it be your own or a hire car ? If the latter, couldn't you make Edinburgh your first stop & hire a car when leaving, or your last stop & drop[ it off when arriving ? You definitely won't want it while you are in Edinburgh.
