Locanda Leon Bianco Hotel in Vencie--Comments???

Has anyone stayed at this hotel in Venice? Any reviews? Is it close to San Marco Square, as it advertises? Their rates are 150 euros/night on the Grand Canal...but I would think there must be something they are not telling. This rate seems to good to be true. Any opinions would be helpful. This is for the tail end of our honeymoon and I don't want to be stuck in a dump and eager to get home.

Thanks

If you'd do a search on this forum by entering the hotel name you'd see many comments about this hotel. My husband, son and I stayed there (as well as many people on this board) and it delivers exactly what the site says. A lovely, antique-filled room with windows that open onto the Grand Canal. It's a small hotel, only 6-8 rooms and is run by a family who are Venitians. They'll assist you in making reservations or give you recommendations about places to eat or places to see. They speak english very well.

The only down side is that you may get a room that faces a small, slightly ugly alley entrance. Try to confirm a canl view. The rooms are beautiful (w/ breakfast brought to your room each morning). Do a search and learn more.

When are you planning on staying there? I, too, thought it looked lovely, and read the many favorable reviews on this board. HOWEVER, I chose not to book there in June because they don't have a/c.

True, and I never think to mention that because we were there in October and slept with the windows open...very cool.

I was there the end of May this yr.
While I do not think it is that close to San Marco Sq. it is not terribly far by the vaporatto.
I LOVED the place.
We had the room that you see on the website.
room #4
What a bargin!
Right on the G.C
3 large windows, so very light and airy.
a few really fun restuarants close by,
and the Ca'd'oro vaporetto stop a very short distance away.

they will give you a continental breakfast at the time requested.
there is always someone there to buzz you through the doors.
There is no AC
and the BR are small !
but certainly big enough to do what is necessary.
In the past I have always stayed in 3 and 4 star hotels,
so to me,
this was a gamble.
But, I would NOT hesitate to stay there again.
Everyone was so pleasant.

If you tell them it is your homneymoon,
maybe they will promise you room #4.

It is definitely NOT a dump,
maybe "shabby chic"
but it is clean, and feels very italian.

Amy: It is my choice for Venice! I have stayed there twice and loved it both times. The rooms are very large, and there are 3 that face the Grand Canal. It is about 1/2 way between Railto and Grand Canal, so the location is fine. Venice is a very small place once you get the layout in your mind. I stayed there in June once and was not very hot at all. The other time was in November.

We stayed there this past May and would do so again. We had 2 rooms facing the Grand Canal, the only complaint was that the floor in our room squeaked loudly whenever you walked across it. This was a bit of a problem because the princess and I keep different hours, I am up early and late and this disturbed her beauty sleep. The room in question is the one on the right if you are in the lobby facing the GC.
The staff and the price were great.
Hi Amy-

We just got back from Venice and stayed at the Locanda Leon Bianco. We loved the hotel and the only thing we would change is we would get a room with a grand canal view. It was not available when we booked it but we settled anyway because of all the favorable comments on this board.

It is a small place, nicely furnished with antiques and very clean. The staff is very helpful, speaks very good English and they deliver breakfast right at the time you ask them to. I would book it only if you can get a grand canal view. The small canal view gets you a view of the side of a building and you really have to lean over and out to see the canals and gondolas going by.

I think you will like this hotel. It is also very convenient to the Rialto Bridge and not too far from St Marks Square.

Hope this helps!
