if you are going to Vienna, visit the Spanish Riding School - home for these magnificent horses. I visited there about 11 years ago - there are crystal chandeliers in the riding arena! wow!

We attended a performance at the Sp Riding School in Vienna in March, in the Hofburg which is where they perform in winter. I understand that in summer there is an outdoor venue.

I can't speak to the rehearsal. The performance had narration (a live narrator) and music. We loved it. Tickets were very expensive. There was some walking up some narrow flights of stairs to get to and from the seats and the rest rooms. Number of flights will depend on which level you are seated in.

If you are traveling (with a car) in the Steiermark, you can see the young Lippizaners up close and personal at some of their training farms. We went hiking right past the fields where the horses were enjoying the summer and at the end of the hike, we crossed the street to see others going through their preliminary training. No crowds, no tickets, fascinating to watch.
