Rush Broadway Tickets

Any one with prior experience on purchasing rush ticket(s)? Has it worked for you?
I'm intersted in seeing Wicked (recently finished the book) and they have Rush tickets where 1/2 prior to show you write name on piece of paper and names are drawn.

Other shows have a "SRO" where if show is sold out, tickets are available on the day of the performance at the box office $20 orch or $15 mezz

I'm just wondering if its worth 1)train ride into the city and 2) freezing my rear end on line

Thanks

I'm never sure exactly how some of those work, but there were mobs waiting for them at WICKET, so I wouldn't think chances are good -- and I thought those were for the horrible front row seats only. And I will warn you that open waiting space outside the Gershwin is a horribly cold wind tunnel.

WICKET, it's a fun musical about two croquet playing witches.

Sorry for the type.

Haven't done it myself, but your chances are probably better in winter when less people are willing to "freeze their butts off in the cold".

I think it's worth a try!

I agree with Patrick and would either buy better tickets for a future show or at least wait until the weather is warmer. I certainly wouldn't take the chance now.
As Patrick correctly said, the seats are not very good. (Why else would they offer them so cheaply?)
I would rather go for standing room tickets. I don't know what the procedure is for standing room. For some shows, they are sold the same day when the box office opens at 10. For others, it's later in the day, say, 6 p.m. for evening performances.

Thanks for your replies.
I figured Wicked would be a long shot. After reading the book, I so want to see the show but I guess I'll wait a little longer.
I tried checking out the "craiglist" site but some of prices for ticket are just way over the top. I know some want to make a litte "profit" and go above face value but selling ticket for $200 and your sitting all the way back in the Rear Mezzanine? That's just not right.

The show is going to be a tough ticket for the foreseeable future. Therefore, I suggest you plan for the future, set a long-term date and get tickets now.

i tried it once for Rent. There wasn't a huge crowd. They collected names, and did a raffle type thing. If your name was called you are allowed 2 tickets. Unfortunately our name wasn't called. I know people who've done it for Rent many times with luck, but I'm just not that lucky. I would think the odds for WIcked would be much worse.
