Lindau itself is a small town that can be covered in probably 2 days. While there, we bought a book on Bodensee and there are many cities on this lake that look beautiful. Meersburg has been recommended on this board as well as Schaffhausen, Stein am Rhein and Rheinfalls, the largest waterfall in Europe. It's a beautiful area. I'm sure you won't have any trouble filling up a week!

If you like museums, the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen (about 30 min. drive from Lindau island) is very good. They have a full size reconstruction of a 33 meter long section of the LZ 129 Hindenburg, including some of the passenger area. I was just there last week and had a great time. But then, I love science and technology museums. Check out www.zeppelin-museum.de if interested.

The island of Mainau is also very scenic with all the flower gardens.

Take a daytrip in the mountains. For instance, Oberstdorf is not far away and really beautiful. From there you can take the cablecar up to the Nebelhorn (alt. 2240m)
At the harbour in Lindau you can take a ferry to Bregenz (Austria), Konstanz (Switzerland), etc.
Beautiful area! You will also enjoy Lindau itself with its small beaches along the lake.
