Life in the 17th Arrond.

We got a good deal on a hotel in the 17th for our weekend in Paris. We will spend the preceding 8 days in Provence. Have stayed in Paris a couple of times before-once near the Arc de Triomphe and, on another visit near, the Eiffel Tower. I understand that the 17th is more residential. Any good restaurants or sights to see in the area? Thanks for your suggestions and advice.

WHich part of the 17th ? It's quite a vast and diverse arrondissement. Please tell us the street.

The hotel is called Pavillon Monceau 43 Rue Jouffroy D'Abbans in the north end. It is a tourist hotel, offered as a package deal with AA vacations. (One of these days our time and money will get together and we will stay in the St. Germain in one of those boutique hotels people are always asking about.)

Thanks for your help.

Rue Jouffroy is a nice, safe, upper-middle class Parisian area, but lacking a bit of character, and convenient metro access. The hotel is not cheap, and, even though I don't know whether you can change hotels for a more central one, I would advise you do. You're only there for a week-end so presumably you'd be putting more emphasis on location than on luxury/size of room.

Recently returned from trip to France and spent only two nights in Paris in the 17th. No trouble at all getting to tourist locations on metro and the 17th (Hotel Magellan) was quiet, lovely and a real neighborhood with real people and restaurants.
