You can't go wrong at Bistro de Paris, 33 rue de Lille, a traditional bistro circa 1900. Don't recall an English menu, but the wait staff is multilingual.

We're rented an apartment just around the corner on rue de Verneuil in the past. There are several restaurants right on Verneuil (Cinq Mars, Cafe des Lettres, le Rouge Vif), as well as an excellent cheese shop, Androuet, and a small grocery store called Proxi. At the corner of Verneuil & rue du Bac is a great boulangerie, J.Saffray. You won't go hungry in this area. On the higher end, Le Voltaire is nearby on the quay and Tan Dinh is on Verneuil. I must say, though, that I feel it's more than a brisk 15 minutes to the Eiffel Tower area restaurants on rue St. Dominique. Closer to Atelier Joel Roubuchon and Gaya, as well as the excellent Cafe Varenne (Bac & Varenne), I think. While not in the "thick of things", so to speak, this is a great area for sightseeing on both left and right banks. FYI: there seem to be new restaurants opening all the time on rue de Verneuil. janisj: Did you realize that the question is not the same? So what if he asked questions since October. You may not be one who is well-organized but there are people who plan their trips way, way ahead of time so that when they land, they know what to do immediately and no time is wasted. Check out Asia forum and you will learn that lots of people plan even one year ahead of time.

Richsuguys: Interesting first post. Not quite sure what you mean. Yes, Elsiejean answered BillT's question, however BillT asked his question 10 months ago and his trip is long over and done.

So what's all the fuss? Truth is that I must have started to read the post, became involved, had some experience in the area and advice to offer, all the while not realizing that it was an old post. Fact is, I often find information in old posts just as helpful as new ones from time to time. So, maybe someone looking for info on the hotel d'Orsay area will learn something new. I know that I do on Fodors all the time. Let's play nicely, kids. EJ

sheesh - there is NOTHING wrong. I merely mentioned that your post giving (good) advice to BillT was a few months too late. I didn't take you to task or anything-

But then someone calling himself "Richsuguys" registered today just to slam me.. Makes no sense.

It is pretty obvious he is an old-time Fodorite just using a temporary screen name. Interestingly - he has since posted to one other thread - also one of BillT's over on the Asia forum. Odd . . . . .

In fact this post was useful to me, as we had stayed in the Hotel Solferino some time ago, and i had no idea it was now Hotel d'Orsay. So thanks for bringing it up.
