I will I will...just don't know when we're going yet! Probably June 2008.

Book the Green Vault online as soon as you know when you are going. Seriously: I booked our tickets for mid January in mid November, i. e. two months in advance, and there nothing left for the day I wanted except late afternoon. (Yes I'll be going on my birthday!) June will be much more crowded than January, so don't hesitate too long.

That's sort of interesting because I visited the Green Vault during my trip to Dresden in summer of 2006 and had no problem getting in right away, I didn't even buy a ticket in advance. I think there was a slight wait at the door, but that's about it. I was there in late July, as I recall.

I found online a very detailed guide to all Bach sites of interest in Germany, with links, photos, maps, history, etc. It is perfect
http://www.bach-cantatas.com/Tour/Tour-Main.htm

I was going to say that Arnstadt really should be added as an important Bach site, as well as Weimar, although I don't know how they fit in to your trip. Both have some things to see and memorials. SOme other places related to Bach probably wouldn't have anything to see. The above site is really marvelous, I'm going to make use of it myself.

Christina, you are talking about the modern part of the Green Vault - that's no problem to get in. The reconstructed historical part, which was not yet open in summer 2006, has the restrictions.

Thanks Christina, that website is very good. Not sure if we'll have time for all of it this time however. But a lot to think about.

This is all very helpful. We plan to be in Dresden and Leipzig in November and will use this info in our planning. Some year ago we were in Leipzig and there was a concert of the Bach choir in his main church. I don't remember all the details, but I think it was weekly and free. Definitely worth looking into for Bach fans.
