Lake District - Is anyone familiar with this accomodation?

Hi,

We are first timers to Lake District - does anyone know this place or has stayed here? The area is called "Great Salkeld"

just to let you know - the chance that someone has stayed in a particular self catering cottage would be pretty slim. It isn't like a hotel that would have hundreds ot thousands of guests in a season. So don't let that sway you one way or the other

The property is in the Eden Valley which is east of the M6 not far from Penrith - so it is near the lakes and convenient for touring the lakes, Pennines and even Hadrian's Wall and into SW Scotland. It isn't IN the National Park but definitely is "close enough".

Thanks janisj,

I was looking for advice on the area, plus the odd chance that someone may have stayed there!

Would you be able to recommend a cottage rental in the National Park?

I have always had satisfaction from English Country Cottages http://www.english-country-cottages.co.uk/
If you scroll down in the "regions" bit on the right of the page Cumbria is right at the bottom (they haven't heard of alphabetical order) and you can click on "Lake District National Park".
It's a good website because it shows you lots of pictures of the properties.
Some have panoramic virtual tours.
Since our children have grown up, we find that if you go for properties that say no children or pets, you tend to get really good furniture and equipment.

Thanks everyone - we decided to reaerch further, and were rewarded, with immense help from the Incredible Fodorites.

As always, I am overwhelmed by your kindness. You guys are so helpful, it's heartwarming. Thanks!

Hi...cannot help with info on this area, or, on this particular cottage, but, I have been renting cottages from the Premier Cottage group for almost 10 years and have never been disappointed!

I have rented cottages in the Lakes a number of times and always use www.cumbrian-cottages.co.uk or

www.heartofthelakes.co.uk

They both specialise in the area and offer a wide choice in terms of size location and price.

It's hard to find a bad one in the Lake District. I always use http://www.goosemirecottages.co.uk and friends and family have also had good experiences.

jenand: Did you notice this thread is nearly 3 years old? (How did you even find a thread this old to top?)
