I've packed 4 or 5 pair, and worn another on board. (Think I even squirreled away a pair of flip flops in my carry-on in addition!) I perform in concerts when I travel, so I need evening shoes. Plus walking shoes, slide-ons, and something that's good in the rain. If I'm going to pack mega shoes, then I force myself to pack lightweight clothes, so I'm not dragging 40 pounds of stuff. I think if your shoes are lightweight, pack as many as you want. You never know how your feet will feel until you get to your destination & have to experience the streets, weather, and see if your feet swell. One year, I wore out my $1 flip flops from Drug Fair, because my feet were so hot & swollen in Rome! Never wore my other 5 pair!

I find it incredibly difficult to find attractive & comfortable shoes to travel in. I ended up using only my white puma tennis shoes (sneakers)most of the trip, sandals (1 day) and black low heeled boots ( 2 or 3 times) for a 2 week Rome 2 day Amsterdam trip. Any ideas on nice looking not frumpy walking shoes that would work for travel. I love espadrilles but don't know where to find them. I'm in California and have only seen 2 inch-heeled espadrilles. Those are NOT comfortable walking on cobblestones! Thanks!

jamie, I buy mine from here from France by mail or in France when there, just remember if you get caught in the rain, they may not hold up. I keep a pair of jellies in my bag in case of rain when here in Boston or Provence.

Cigalechanta, what I should have said was there was an "incident" going on down the street from the shop the day we were there and very few people walking about. Us city-folks just being a little paranoid I guess.
