Krakow worth a major detour?

Hi! I'm planning a backpacking trip around Europe through about 17 cities and I though while I was traveling between Vienna and Prauge I should go to Krakow because I hear it has a great nightlife that is pretty cheap but I figured out that it's a 13 hour detour and just the traveling will cost me about $80 so I'm not sure if it is worth it. I'd only be visiting for 3 days and I thought that spending more time in other cities might be a better idea since it is 75 day trip but I'd love to see what others think.
Thanks!

I love Krakow.
But at my age I'm not in nightlife anymore - you have as much nightlife in Prague.
Vodka is quite cheap, yes.

I would say Krakow is most definitely worth a visit. It has fascinating sights and even if you are not big on nightlife, you can't help thoroughly enjoying sitting on the main market square or soaking up the bohemian atmosphere of Plac Nowy in Kazimierz, Jewish quarter.
The "In Your Pocket" guides are superb. Try http://krakow-bestguide.blogspot.co.uk/ for less obvious recommendations.

I really like Krakow but it isn't in-between Vienna and Prague so it is definitely a detour, more a major change of itinerary. Don't go there just because you think it is cheap because it's not that cheap in comparison to many other places.

I'd go there for 3 days, if that's how much time you have there as I really liked it. Would be worth $80 to me. But I don't know your other itinerary and the alternatives.

YOu don't really think there is going to be some cosmic nightlife experience in Krakow unlike anywhere else you will be.

This is another vote for Krakow! I loved having breakfast outdoors in the square. Visits from Krakow to Auschwitz and the salt mines are worthwhile, too.

I do not know how did you come up with $80 for just travel (overnight train?) but it can be much cheaper. PolskiBus just started a new route Vienna (Wiedeń)-Brno-Kraków, prices from 19PLN ($5), tickets for Kraków-Prague with Leo Express start from $15-20.

Krakow is one of the most beautiful palces in Europe! Underrated, but worth to look, not only becouse of nightlife (which is good, because there are plenty of pubs, bars and cafes). Take a detour and see also Auschwitz, it's one of a kind experience. You can easily find a tour online (for example - cracowvisit.com, very comfortable and easy way, when you planning a tour to Auschwitz).

Welcome Poznan.
Be aware that A first time poster digging a cold thread to post an ad looks suspicious.

Btw OP never came back here.
Be polite to newcomers they say.
