Koblenz Train Station for EuropCar Office

Hi German Fodorites,

I will be traveling by train from Amsterdam to Koblenz where I pick up my rental car. The office address is Andernacher Str. 199 which looks to be near an auto dealership area. Nearest station seems to be Lutzel rather than the main Koblenz Hbf. Should I book my train ticket to Koblenz Hbf in order to get a taxi to the rental office? Lutzel looks like a very small local station and taxis might not be readily available or am I wrong on that?

Any local advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Two choices:

1) Take the fast trains to Koblenz Hbf and take a taxi to Andernacher Str. 199. It's barely two miles.

2) Take a slower train connection to Koblenz-Lützel (if you can't do the umlaut, spell it as Koblenz-Luetzel)

You'll find them all at www.bahn.de

I suggest you contact Autoeuope and/or Europcar directly before making plans. That's what I did a number of years ago. I was able to pick up the car at the Mercedes dealership on Beatusstrasse - it's just behind Koblenz Hbf (main station.)

I've already booked through Autoeurope so I'm all set there. The rental office was described as "downtown", but it did look to be a short distance away from the main station. Just barely far enough that I don't want to walk it with my roller.

I'm booking my longer and more costly train travel now. I believe tickets are less if booked in advance, correct? Already working on bahn.com, but haven't compared prices yet.

On the return, I plan to stop off in Koln to see the cathedral so I think I will book that one just from Koln to Amsterdam.

Would you say the savings booking for much shorter train travel is worth booking in advance? Between ASM and Delft, Delft and Amsterdam? I would think there would be no need to do those in advance.

Thanks so much for the input!

You can request an intermediate stop of a defined duration at the DB website. No need to buy two different tickets: If you book a single ticket, in all likelyhood the price for the Koblenz - Amsterdam leg will be the same as for the Köln - Amsterdam leg.

sla019,

Thank you for that info! I am going to book these trips now so that helps me know what to look for on the site.

That address is about 2 km from the Lutzel train station.

For some odd reason, Autoeurope seems to only rent cars from Europcar at that location, even though there is a Europcar right at the main Koblenz train station.

Good to know Christina. I would have expected it to be closer to the main station too. Looks like taxi it is! I'm fine with that.
