Just returned from Paris, the Dordogne, Uzès
Just returned from a wonderful three-week stay in Paris, the Dordogne and Uzès.
A lot of information has been posted on Paris on this board, so I'll only add that:
1. Hôtel Jeanne d'Arc, in the Marais, is a fine, small hotel. Perfect location. 80E
2. Hôtel Regent's on rue Madame, in the 6th, is all right. Good location, bad mattresses. 80E also
The Dordogne: Very beautiful region with many, many interesting sites to visit. Stayed one week in a lovely gite in Castlenaud (http://www.les-trois-chats.com/index.htm)
Visited Sarlat, Domme, Rocamadour, La Roque Gageac, Belves and many other "Plus beaux Villages de France". Also the Grotte de Fond de Gaume (well worth a visit), Les Milandes (Josephine Baker's château from 1947 to 1968), the Musée des armes du Moyen Âge at Castelnaud (highly interesting), the gardens at Manoir d'Eyrignac. The Périgord Noir is truly worth a visit.
Uzès and Provence: Rented a gite for a week within walking distance to the town of Uzès. Good decision. Uzès is a nice small town with a lot of history, fine shops and good restaurants.
Based in Uzès, we visited the Pont du Gard, Avignon (the Palais des Papes), Nîmes (the arenas and the Maison Carrée), St-Rémy (a disappointment), Les Baux de Provence (outstanding!), the Camargue and Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (quaint small town).
We picked up the car at Orly and dropped it off at Orly at the end of our trip. We used the RER and found it to be fast and efficient.
All in all, a great three-week holiday.
Ira: I know you're planning to visit the Dorgogne area. Don't hesitate...it's well worth it.

Hi Betty: The gite near Uzès was fine, but after the one we rented in the Dordogne, it didn't compare. It had, however, some good points: Withing walking distance of Uzès (a lovely town); very peaceful and quiet; covered patio with table and chairs; free access to the owners' vegetable garden.
The gite itself was one large room, a former sheephold that has been very nicely renovated. You can see it at

The owners, who live above the gite, are very nice and helpful.
I hope this answers your question.
