Just returned from Amalfi coast

I just returned from 5 wonderful days on the Amalfi coast. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip, only wish we could have stayed longer. We stayed for 2 days at Palazzo Sasso in Ravello (probably the nicest hotel we have stayed at). We had then planned 3 days in Sorrento as a convenient place to explore the region (Pompei etc.) However we found Sorrento extremely touristy, and we also were somewhat disappointed with our hotel (Grand Hotel Cocumella). We decided at the last minute to move to Capri for two nights instead, which we really loved. Unfortunately we never made it to Pompei or any other attractions, mainly because it was too hot to even think about sightseeing (heatwave in Europe last week). Instead we spent 5 days relaxing by the pool and going for lovely walks in the evening. We did make it to the Ravello music concert one evening, which we really liked. We then went to Verona for a few days and made it to the Opera, which was an amazing experience.

I would be happy to answer any questions anyone has.

Do you think it is a better place to get married or honeymoon?

I think it is a better place to go on honeymoon. However we did see a big wedding taking place at Palazzo Sasso, and it was beautiful, so this is something you may want to look into. The views over the Amalfi coast are stunning and would make a fantastic backdrop to wedding photgraphs.

Monica: I assume you came in from Naples. Did you use the train to Sorrento or the hydrofoil?

We actually ended up going from Naples to Ravello. We had lots of luggage and Ravello is quite hard to get to so we arranged a car throught the hotel. It cost about E100.

Monica
We are going to Palazzo Sasso in early
September-so happy to hear that it is lovely. Can you tell me-is it easy to get around the coast from there-visit Positano, Vietri and Capri. Did you go to Capri and Pompeii from there? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ursula,
Ravello is a beautiful small town perched on the hillside above the sea. Access to most places in the town is by foot, along lanes and down steep paths and steps. Take the local service bus to Amalfi(The bus station is at the harbour) and from there you can get a boat to Capri, or buses to Vietri or Pompeii. I would recommend a guided tour to the latter as it gets extremely busy A good guide can keep you one step ahead of the game and clear of the crowds. Try the double trip, Pompeii and Vesuvius, where you can get the bus part way to the summit, walk the rest up the path and then walk round the crater. On Capri, the cablecar journey is a great trip.
