June in Cinque Terre

I know that I really must sound like a baby to be even asking this question...but here goes...We are planning to visit Cinque Terre the 2nd week of June. Most accomadations have no air conditioning. I have checked with a few that do and are in my budget, but no availability. I know that weather is always changing, but how warm is it there at that time of year? Can anyone shed some light on this, is a room with a/c really uncomfortable in June? I don't plan on sitting in my room all day, but I want to be comfortable when I'm there. I have searched some weather history, but the info for that area is vague. Thanks for helping!!

try this one http://www.duxi.it/ - we're staying in late May and it's 85 or 80 Euros a night for 2. It's in Riomaggiore

One thing we have done a couple of times when in a hot climate where AC is scarce is to purchase a small oscillating electric fan. These have proved a real life-saver, especially at night. We used one in Vernazza a couple of years ago. And when you leave, you can make a friend by just leaving the fan with them (cost about $20).

I was there in late May last year. Since it's on the coast there was usually a nice breaze and even when it was warm in the day (not desert hot) it was cool in the evenings. Although A/C might be a must in Rome, I don't think it would be in CT based on my limited experience.

Thanks for the suggestions. I thought that being near the water would lend some cooling breezes, but with the houses being so close together, it (the breeze) might get lost. The idea of a fan is a good one and Amanda, I will check out that address.

Hi, Last year it was very warm on Lago Maggiore, but I can't say if that was a fluke or global warming. Jinx, the fan is an inspired idea. Why didn't I think of that?

I was there mid-June through July 7 this past summer and the weather is still bearable at that time. It really started heating up in July and by the time I left, it was getting very hot, August is even worse. Keep in mind it is right on the ocean so the nights ALWAYS cool down. There is a wonderful breeze and if you keep your window shutters open a bit, you will remain comfortable. Most accommodations do have ceiling fans, so that helps too. Just enjoy yourself and relax, you really are going at the best time of the summer! If you want to check the weather before you go, try weather.com (http://www.weather.com/common/welcom...from=globalnav) and enter either Genoa or La Spezia to get the closest weather reading for the Cinque Terre. Buon viaggio!

Actually Allison, I've just rechecked the hotel site and they've updated it showing a map of where it is in Riomagg. It seems to be a long way up the hill and from the train station! I think we'll stay there though, and put up with the walk up the steps! I'm going to e-mail them to see if they pick up from the train!

My family has been to the CT twice in June and it was very hot both years. We stayed one year up in the hills (way above the CT towns) and didn't need ac there, even though we melted on the hike. The last visit, we stayed in a hotel in Lavagna near the water and, like Jinx, bought an oscillating fan which helped. This area is more a destination for vacationing Italians who don't mind the heat so most places don't have ac (except the high-end hotels). We're from Atlanta and know heat! We were OK with a fan in this area. As for Rome, we'll never stay there without ac again. Ciao . . .

I am going also to CT for a week around june 23...The apt. that I have rented has a balcony and face the sea...I hope to have at least some breeze at night, otherwise I may need to buy a fan...I dont worry about it!!! I is all part of travelling, as long it has a kitchnette, shower, refrigerator, and comfortable beds to sleep I will be happy. If I expect all the time to have the comfort of my home, I will never travel...
