Is it crazy to drive from Berchtesgaden to Lucerne for 1 night?
Option 2
Thursday – Munich

Saturday – Lucerne
Sunday – Berchtesgarten Hotel – Drive the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse / Salzburg Sights
Monday - Berchtesgarten Hotel – Salzburg sights.

We really want to visit Mt Pilatus. How do the cable cars cog railway at Zugspitze compare to Mt Pilatus?
Open to any and all sugestions.

1. Re-post with a more specific title - you'll get more responses.
2. What time of year?
3. Most important: You're staying in Berchtesgaden yet allotting no time to enjoy the beauty of the area - why is that?

You asked..."Is it crazy to drive from Berchtesgaden to Lucerne for 1 night?"
Yes. Its half crazy leaving Berchtesgaden without seeing that area in the first place, and it is another half crazy for doing all that driving, both ways to Luzerne, for just one night. That makes the idea completely crazy.
Also you said "We really want to visit Mt Pilatus." Ok, thats cool. Then why don't you just drive to Luzern after spending two days in Munich, see the mount, then drive back to Munich for your last night. You only have 5 nights total to spend. Each place you mentioned is worthy of 5 days alone.
I guess you like to drive so driving from Munich to Luzern makes sense to me. You can pick out some pretty highways on the way.

I agree with the post above. Your trying to do too much.
You are planning on using Berchtesgaden as a base for exploring Salzburg but the surrounding Berchtesgadenland area is beautiful and deserves several days in its own right.
I haven't been to Luzern but have driven from Berchtesgaden to Appenzell, Switzerland in one day and it was a long drive. Luzern would be a few hours longer. I wouldn't do it.
If it were me, I would either pick the Luzern area or the Salzburg area instead of trying to do both.

Hi P,
If you want to see a lake, you might want to consider Lake Konstanz.
There's a nice drive along the Deutsche Alpenstrasse and you don't have to buy a Swiss road tax sticker.
You could also drive to St. Wolfgang and/or Hallstatt in Austria.

Hi,
If your reason for driving all that way to Luzern is to take a ride to the top of Mt. Pilatus...why? The Zugspitze is so much closer and outstanding!!!

I also think the day of driving from Berchtesgaden-Grossglockner-Salzburg (basically back to Berchtesgaden)is stretching it. But that's just my opinion.
