2 day in southern bavaria - help needed

We are going to be driving from Munich to Salzburg in May and would like to spend 2 day exploring southern Bavaria.

Our plan is to start from Munich early in the morning (before 9 am) and drive to Bavaria. On the second day evening, we will start driving to Salzburg. I would like to see all the places mentioned here but not sure what's the best way to utilize our time. In other words, looking for 'first go to A, from there to B...' suggestions!

- Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau (we won't be doing the tour though)
- Linderhof Palace
- Ettal Monastery
- towns of Mittenwald and oerammergau
- Wieskirche
- Zugzpitze

Is it going to be too rushed? I am thinking of spending a night in Ettal or Oberammergau - is it a good central location for exploring the area? And of course, if there are any other 'must-see' places I have missed, please let me know.

You should have plenty of time, if you just want to visit and see each area! or you can spend the whole week exploring in and around this area!

Zugspitz, Oberamergau, Mittenwald, Weiskirch can be done in one day easy. or if you want to take a cable car up the Zugspitz that could take the whole day in itself,

Next day you could do the Castles.

If you have time on the way to Salzburg you might want to detour and check out Kitzbhuel.

The whole area should be beautiful in May! The Yellow flowers ( I always forget what they are called!) should be in full bloom.....as well as the Spargel!

You are trying to do too much. Think quality, not quantity.

By the way, Munich is in Bavaria. "start from Munich ... and drive to Bavaria."

bmw732002. thanks you. I will look up Kitzbhuel in my Austria travel guide.

Larryincolorado - I wish I had more time. The reason for posting this question is to understand if I am being too ambitious. Or how to best utilize my time, but may be I wasn't clear. I know Munich in in Bavaria and I am spending 3 days there I meant to say that start from Munich for southern Bavaria.

One of our best Fodor's experts, Wes Fowler, provided 4 detailed itineraries for Bavaria that might be of interest to you. While they all begin and end in Hohenfurch, I think you'll find that they are adaptable to your needs.

Unfortunately, Wes is no longer with us, but thank goodness his posts are still here for all to reference.

I have done this route a number of times and it never gets old. As you head down toward Innsbruck and across to Salzburg from Mittenwald (a good midpoint stop) you might want to check out Hall, Austria and Bertschesgaden before you get to Salzburg.
