Does anyone know where I can find a resource that depicts the various rail lines in Italy with associated stations?

I'd like see where I can make point-to-point connections without having to make transfers between lines. I think this might help me decide where to "homebase" on trips to Tuscany or Umbria.

For example: Can I go from Rome to Orvieto and then on to Venice without a line change/transfer?

Rick Steve's book on Italy has a route map of the train system, including the cost to get from one point to another.

I think the map might also be on his web site. Sorry, don't have the URL but it should be easy enough to Google.

Tha above link gives a pretty good representation, but I think there still might be some lines missing. Also for some of your routes between smaller towns, a bus might be better.

The answer is yes.

However, keep in mind that perhaps not all trains that pass through Orvieto actually stop there. And not all trains that go to "Venice" actually stop at Venice SL, the train station on the island. Some only go as far as Venice Mestre, which is on the mainland.
