Sevilla is an excellent option, the queen of the cities in the South of Spain. Full of Phoenician, Roman, Jewish, Christian, Moslem and Gitano history and culture. A world center after America was "discovered" in 1492, and a wonderful city where old and new meet on every street corner.

Fabulous tapas bars and restaurants, the oldest in town dates back to 1670. Sevilla is a cradle of flamenco culture. You could see fabulous Pastora Galván dancing in intimate Case de la Memoria in the midst of the old Santa Cruz district: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2SBUcrJgeQ

El Rinconcillo, tapas bar and restaurant from 1670: http://azahar-sevilla.com/sevilletap...l-rinconcillo/

And you are close to wonderful cities such as Córdoba (with the Mezquita) and Granada (with the Alhambra) and seaside Málaga by the Mediterranean. Also lots of small towns and villages all over Andalucía that are well worth a visit.
