Italy Honeymoon

Hi Guys,
We are planning a 14 day honeymoon in August or Sept to Italy. We have never been there and just want to enjoy it without having to worry about transportation, what to do, etc. So we were thinking of doing a package. Does anyone have any recommendations for packages or companies?

Thanks!

I certainly hope you don;t mean a tour - which will have you racing around ike chickens with no heads, long says on buses and lots of luggage packed outside the door by 7 am.

Gate 1 travel has actual packages. You pick from their list of hotels i n whichever cities you want and they can arrange tickets for your transit from city to city (but they're not there to hold your hands). That way you have reservations/tickets - but the freedom to do what you want when (stay out at night, get up later, breakfast in bed, sitting in a cafe and just enjoying la dolce vita) and not spending all day on a bus every day.

First, make it Sep and not August.
Next, do not do a tour unless you are 60 and this is your 3rd marriage.
Lastly, you can do your own thing with help from here--trust me.

Ditto Bob's advice!
August is hotter than hell and alot of places are closed as everyone leaves the city for their vacations.Tours are not necessary as you can do all of your own planning and pace yourselves unless you like the mantra of having your luggage outside your door at 7am everyday and on a bus.
We fodorites LOVE to give advice particularly on Rome and Italy!

You could organize a lovely 14-day trip using entirely public trans. However, some exurban areas (like Tuscany, Umbria, Piedmont) are easier and more fun to explore by car.

So, your first task is deciding where you want to go, what you want to see. I'd start by perusing the destination guides right here on fodors.com. Go to the top of the screen and click on "Destinations." Watch some DVDs from the library or Netflix. If you have a good bookstore nearby, look at some of the guidebooks.

I would say don't go for any tour packages. Plan it yourself in detail so that if you want to extend your stay in one city for a long time, you can do that. I agree that August is hotter than September, so make a slight change in your plan. Italy is great place to visit and I had been there when I received a letter from American airways. The trip was fun filled!! By the way you must visit Vatican Museum and the Colosseum.. Don't forget.
