Italian Honeymoon in June
We're planning on leaving June 13th for an 8 day honeymoon in Italy and I'm looking for a little advise before booking. We're thinking, right now, of doing Mon-Wed nights in Rome, Thurs-Fri nights in either Naples or Sorrento, then back in Rome on Saturday night so that we can fly out on Sunday.
First of all, we're still debating hotels. I'm thinking right now Hotel Des Artistes for Rome and Hotel Il Nido in Sorrento. Des Artistes because its near the train station, an Il Nido because I hear good things about it. Opinion? Also, we'd like to do 1 day in Pompeii and 1 in Naples, but I've heard that I probably don't want to stay in Naples. True or no?
I know it's a lot to ask, but...maybe someone can help.
Thanks!

ttt for honeymooners.
Is there a reason you wish to locate near the Termini while in Rome?
I do not know your hotel, but for more input, type in something like
Rome hotels, Naples Hotels, Pompeii, etc intop the Text Search box at the top of this .
It will pull up many threads to look at.
You will find many people love Naples, while an equal number would avoid it.
Have fun planning and have a lovely time!!
BTW- my daughter's name is Annabel and I call her annabelli

Actually, after reading more and more posts in this forum, I'm thinking of changing my mind about staying near the Termini. We were looking for convenience, but I think the city center would be more convenient (even with catching a taxi). What about Hotel Cosmopolita. I've seen 2 or 3 reviews on here about it. Anyone else stayed there. And would we be better off just taking Pompeii and Naples and two separate day trips?

I think staying in the city center would be a better base in Rome. I don't know anything about the hotels you mentioned or your budget, but many people here have recommended the Albergo del Senato and the Santa Chiara. The del Senato is right in Piazza della Rotunda, where the Pantheon is located and an unbeatable location.
You don't really need to take taxis in Rome. We walked almost everywhere. For longer trips, take the metro or the bus--both were easy to use and get around in.
Naples and Pompeii as day trips would be a long trek from Rome. If you really want to go, it would make sense to train down to Naples, take a car to Sorrento and stay there. Sorrento is beautiful. From there, you can do trips to Pompeii, Naples, Capri, and the Amalfi coast.
You're itinerary now is to fly in and out of Rome. One way to save travel time is to fly into Rome and out of Naples (or vice versa). Look into open jaw tickets--since you don't have that much time in Italy, best not to waste it traveling back and forth to Rome.
Since 8 days isn't that long (even just for Rome), one place to consider instead of Pompeii is Ostia, which is a bit closer. I've heard great things about the ruins there.
Good luck--you'll have a great time!

Annabellee,
By all means, go for a place in center city. Look in the areas around the pantheon, piazza navona or campo de fiori. Then, as you noted, you'll only need to taxi once. Taxi from termini station to center city is only 5 Euro.
