i live in london and work off and on in paris...requiring very frequent journeys. i find eurostar much less labourous than flying.
i do agree that there is a lot to be desired in the eurostar. just lately i am noticing that the coaches are slowly getting make-overs. it is about time as in both classes it is not unusual to find a dirty coach with carpet completely worn off in many areas. i have noticed that the service in first has improved.

Pestrada's made up Pestrada's mind. But for the record:
- first class means you can check in closer to the departure time, and as BTilke says, can give you access to lounges if you've bought the right deal
- first class fits three seats across each carriage: standard fits four
- first class can, again depending on the deal, offer free parking - certainly at Ashford
- "reclining" seats means something a very long way away from what BA Club World means.
- MK2's right about the mediocrity of the first class food. But can you eat it before Calais anyway? My memory (which may be wrong) is that it's served between Calais and Paris.
- you do get (some) free booze in First.
- The First supplement can sometimes be so small, it might be worth it just to add a sense of occasion. But most of the time, for most of us, it really isn't.
