Interlaken Switzerland Hotel Recommendation

My wife and I are planning a trip to Interlaken in late April 2006 and we are looking at either Hotel Bernerhof, or Hotel Bellevue. We would like a hotel near the train station & possibly one with a river view. Can anyone suggest either of these hotels? If not, can you recommend another hotel?

There are 2 train stations in Interlaken, Interlaken Ost (or East) and Interlaken West. Interlaken is a long skinny town and the two stations are a fair distance apart. Interlaken Ost is the station from which the trains up into the Bernese Oberland leave, to the Lauterbrunnen valley, Jungfrau, Wengen, Murren, etc. Also the boat ride on Lake Brienz leaves from Interlaken Ost. Whereas the boat on Lake Thun leaves from Interlaken West.

We stayed at the Hotel du Lac across the street from the Interlaken Ost station. We had a room overlooking the river. The hotel was fine, but nothing special. But it was a very convenient location.

Have you read the reviews for Interlaken hotels in www.tripadvisor.com?

In Feb. 2004, we atayed at the
Best Western Hotel Bernerhof
ADDRESS: Bahnhofstrasse 16 Interlaken Switzerland CH-3800

the hotel was right across the street from the train station and convenient to restaurants, shops, and even the post office. Nice hotel with complimentary breakfast. I don't remember a riverview, but our room faced the street.

Interlaken is beautiful! Enjoy

We also stayed at the Hotel du Lac by the east (Ost) train station and it was very convenient for our day trips by train and our boat trip on Brienz. We explored the rest of Interlaken as well, and thought we had chosen wisely. The west part of the town seemed far more crowded. We got a good price on the hotel by having our meals there, and found the food quite good. It's true that the hotel isn't particularly special, but our room was comfortable and we had a lovely view of the lake. I agree that Interlaken is a lovely city and you can do a lot of exploring from there.

Hotel Lotschberg is fairly close to Interlaken West (5 minute walk). No view but it's a great place. The owner, Fritz is wonderful and really goes out of his way (as do all the others who work there) to help you. He'll even take you paragliding. He says he goes almost every day. www.lotschberg.ch

Hello stonewallgrey,

A couple years ago, we stayed at the Hotel Bernerhof. Our room with twin beds had a wonderful view of the mountains. The room was very comfortable for the 3 nights we were there. Breakfast was delicious and filling.

The rooms that face the mountains will be on the street side. However, the rooms were very quiet at night. Most of the traffic is gone by the time you'd go to bed, so that was not a problem at all. I cannot speak of rooms that may face the river as that was not the part where we stayed.

The very close proximity to the train station was terrific. It's literally a stone's throw away. Very convenient.

Through the bestwestern.com website, you can usually get discounts for prepaid or senior rates.

Should I ever stay in Interlaken again, this hotel would get the nod once again.

Hope this helps.
Happy travels!
